Appalachian Trail

Harper's Ferry, WV

15-17 June 2001

Here are some pictures from our 12 mile hike we took along the Appalachian Trail.
Our 12-mile hike was very enjoyable. The weather was not too hot and our hike was located along
the mountains within the Appalachian Range. We left our campsite at 7:30 a.m. and reached the start
of the hike at 8:00 a.m. We talked together about the history of the Appalachian Trail and Harper's
Ferry near the location of our hike. We hiked the first 6 miles of the trail before stopping for lunch at Weverton's Cliff. We stopped many times along the way for breaks and to place bandages on possible blisters. After lunch, the trail was entirely downhill, we had to zigzag down the mountainside because
the side was too steep. We fell a couple times on our butts, but nobody was injured and we continued.
At the end of the trail, we entered the Harper's Ferry National Historic Park where many buildings and
sites were saved from as long ago as the Civil War. We walked through the town for a couple minutes
and left the Park by shuttle bus. After we reached the bus stop, we walked almost another mile to the
camping grounds we were staying in. Later that evening, we were able to relax by playing games and swimming for a couple of hours. And that was our day on the Appalachian Trail. (Perry)
